The cat charity Cats Protection has always been close to my heart. When I heard they were starting up a bereavement helpline called Paws to Listen, to help people cope with their grief after losing their cats I was keen to help. I heard recently they were looking to take on people as volunteers to listen and chat with bereaved cat owners. I contacted Cats Protection and asked more about it, after an informal phone interview I was accepted to train to become a listener and help on the calls they receive.
I have only just started my online training but I’m really enjoying it and its great to connect with other people who realise how coping with cat loss is so important…...Cats Protection believes how someone copes and deals with their loss, can have a really important effect on whether they ever get another cat in the future, which of course helps rehome more cats.
The helpline is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and hopes to extend these hours in the future.
If the lines are busy then a call back service is available.
While they are unable to offer counselling, they can provide a friendly ear and sympathy at a difficult time .
An email service is also available if people find talking on the phone difficult.
Once my training is finished I hope to give a couple of hours a week to help, with more hours depending on my cat sitting commitments.
Take care everyone, Love and purrs Rachel and Mr Ringo xxx
