I just had to tell you all about one of my lockdown reads. This book is a wonderful story about a remarkable dog and her owner Colin Butcher.
Working as a cat sitter, I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages but I thought there wouldn’t be many cats in it but I was wrong.
This book is full of incredible stories of lost cats and how Molly a highly trained cocker spaniel, finds most of them. There are dogs too, a perfect balance of feline and canine!
Colin Butcher is a real life Pet Detective! Yes they really do exist and live in the South of England. This book is beautifully written and I especially enjoyed reading about Colin’s life as a Naval Officer, Police man and later Private Investigator. I also found the story of how the Pet Detective business evolved both fascinating and engaging.
From reading this book it is obvious Colin is a huge animal lover and kind totally empathetic man, to the often distraught and frantic owners. There is definitely a huge demand for their services. From an animal behaviourial view it was so interesting to read about both cats and dogs behaviour in this context. I hope this pet detective business goes from strength to strength, I would certainly call on their services if Mr Ringo disappeared and wasn’t visiting the neighbours!
