The book market is flooded with hundreds of lovely cat stories but every now and then one book comes along that really gets to you and this is one of those books. Living in the UK we don’t have the feral cat populations that many countries have and only really see feral or community cats in large numbers when we go on holiday. Being a huge cat lover and owner of a cat sitting business I found this book to be fascinating , educational (especially about feline behaviour in groups), emotional, heartbreaking and simply absorbing. I couldn’t put it down! Raphaella is a true cat angel and has devoted a lot of her life to looking after these wonderful creatures in Jerusalem.
In 2004 the Israeli supreme court made a ruling concerning its street cats, allowing the cats the right to live in the streets and allowing people to feed them providing certain rules are followed including neutering and vaccinating them. It is also prohibited to kill a street cat or move it from its original habitat unless it is a serious health risk. My only fault with this book is I would have loved to have seen photographs of the cats but my guess is that when the author took out her camera, the cats ran off in true cat spirit!
